Sneak Peak of Welcome Center

Here is a sneak peak of our new welcome and education center. We plan on opening this facility winter 2019! It will feature an auditorium, office space, and a conference room.

Aviary Maintenance Assistant

POSITION SUMMARY This part-time position falls under the supervision of the Aviary Manager. The incumbent will perform routine activities necessary to facilitate the goals and objectives of the Eagle Aviary Program.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: includes the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Observe and fix all maintenance and weathering issues regarding the cages and perches.

Ensure cages are prepped for the weather (i.e. shade cloth in summer, panels in winter)

Make sure that all tools and machinery are accounted for and immediately notify management if something is missing.

Assist with the mowing and lawn maintenance at the aviary.

Assist with any in-house construction improvements at the aviary.

Ensure vehicles are maintained and proper maintenance is being carried out

Maintain program files for projects

Advise aviary supervisor when items are needed

Assist with upkeep of the facility as necessary including basic construction

Assist with non-eagle aviary duties (food prep, feeder animals, etc.) as needed.

Pick up supplies for aviary as needed.

Perform seasonal tasks as needed (i.e. shovel snow, spread salt, wash sidewalks, maintain flowerbeds)

All other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Must possess good communication skills when dealing with Tribal members and the community.

Must be culturally sensitive in working with Indian Tribes. Knowledge of Ioway’s or Native American cultural activities preferred.

QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Ability to actively listen and give full attention to what other people are saying and ask questions when appropriate
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in writing and verbally, with individuals of diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to read, understand, and apply and retain knowledge of departmental rules, regulations and policies.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Must be able to complete essential duties in an environment exposed to all elements.

  • Be able to lift 50 lbs.
  • Be able to work in all weather conditions (e.g. extreme heat and cold conditions).
  • Be able to stoop, sit, crouch or crawl.
  • Be able to operate vehicles and construction tools (saws, hand drills, etc.)

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
